Calypso
~ Missed By: Gail Ackerman
For Calypso, the best friend a person could have
You passed exactly two years ago, my little African grey buddy. You were with me for 18 years, and I thought we would have at least another 30 or so. I wanted to see you as a crotchety old bird with a figurative cane, but it was sadly not meant to be. You were a wonderfully sweet and kind bird to everyone, so accepting (most of the time) with being handled. Although not a great talker, you could stop me in place with one of you casual stares, and I knew what you meant to say. I am still after all this time truly grieved that you are no longer tearing up my magazines or hanging out with the pots and pans in the cabinet, or dancing to whatever music is playing. But if there is a special place for parrots in the afterlife, I am sure you are there flying circles with the other birds. Fly high, my little Calypso. You will forever be with me in spirit, and in the antics of my new African grey friend, Aero.
Kiss the mountain
Kiss the mountain air we breathe
Goodbye, it's time to fly
Sparrow climb, the air is thinner
