Barely

Barely, Faithful to the End
He "barely" made it when he was a baby; that's where he got his name. I'll never forget the day I picked him up from the aviary; he was LOUD! I didn't know anything about owning a bird, at least not a Cockatoo, but it was love at first sight and I thought about him the whole weekend before I got him. He would come home from college with me and talk to me and sing to the radio. I later learned his favorite band was Incubus and no matter what he was doing, when he heard the first notes of one of their songs, he went crazy!
When I was down, he'd cry with me - literally mimicking the crying sounds I made. When I was happy, he was happy - laughing and saying "Wheee!". He loved life and whatever that brought, whether it be playing in the sock drawer or chasing our Sheltie around the coffee table. He loved showers and kisses, and sometimes would sleep on the top of the bedroom door when I was napping. He liked to play peek-a-boo and sing a song my mom taught to him.
Even though he was loud and in need of so much attention, it was easy to love him. He brought so much joy into my life and I still think of him every day and find myself telling him to make my new bird behave. There's not a part of me that doesn't miss him and hurt when I think of him and blame myself for his early departure. But, I rest in knowing that I will one day be reunited with him, where we can play and laugh together again.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....Author Unknown
