February 20, 2009 ~ Missed By: Kim
The Best Travel And Study Buddy Around
Mickey was born in March 1997 in Florida and adopted in Daytona Beach, FL. She passed away unexpectedly on 20 Feb 2009. She is survived by her mothers, Kim and Bev, her stepdad Mike, her dad, John and her brothers Michael and Danny. Her feathered brothers and sisters are Charley, Brownie (conure), Jaxie (conure) and Squirty Pants (Jenday). Mickey was preceded in death by her sister Sparky (dalmation) and Red (conure). She will be very, very missed by all :(
Mickey was actually Mickey II who replaced the original Mickey who accidently got carried away by a wind gust. At the time of adoption of the first Mickey, my nephews were into Mickey Mouse and Big Bird. Thankfully Mickey won out :)
I adopted Mickey II in May of 1999. She traveled / lived across the country and back (Florida to Washington to California then to Virginia). She loved hiking at Yosmite National Park, relaxing on beaches and camping in my RV. Mickey would always behave for her favorite foods: McDonald french fries, coke-cola, pizza crust and popcorn. She would stay on my shoulder for hours while I studied for my Air Force promotions and my college classes. Mickester served her country with distinction by surviving my deployments and forgiving me for being gone so long. Long Live Master Sgt Mickey, Retired
Mickester Trickster
Not too many months after adopting Mickey (II), I came home to fiind Mickester Trickester perched on top of her cage with all the locks in place. It took me several years to figure out how it happened. She un did her lock, took it off, let herself out, put the lock back on and tighten it up -exactly how I had it.
Mickey saved my life one night in California. I was showering and she was making the kind of squak that meant trouble or a break in. I stopped in the middle of the shower and went to see what was up. I don't know how she knew it, but the TV (behind closed doors) was smoking and ready to catch on fire! Thanks for saving my (our) lives Mickey.
One night she scared away would be thieves in Florida. It was 3 AM and all the sudden Mickey and Buckles went off like never before. I heard some rustling and then quiet. Thanks Mickey for not making me go downstairs and face the burgulars :)
I will miss her guarding me when I travel in my RV :(
I still don't know how my shoes have all those birdy (beak) marks...I always watched her real close when she was out of the cage....
